MOVER: Steve Case
AGE: 42
JOB: Chairman, AOL Time Warner

FAMILY
:
Wife, Jean, CEO, Case Foundation; three children from former marriage

EDUCATION
:
Williams College, B.A., 1980

DISTINCTION
: He started small with a limeade stand when he was six years old. But his business savvy eventually led him to become chairman of an Internet company big enough to absorb Time Warner and valued at $114 billion.

Q
: You're a great listener. Do you think that is a valuable skill?

A
: Yeah, I think probably even more than listening, it's observing. It's being able to soak things up...[it's] being able to kind of connect the dots in your own mind even though maybe they're not so easily connectable. It is listening very closely to consumers. And I guess it's been one of the real traits of AOL from day one. We recognized it was an interactive medium. We could talk to our members. They could tell us what they liked and what they didn't like.

It's pretty basic, but not that many companies do it or [they] don't have the mechanisms that make it easy to do.
