Fitness is a Choice
by Stu Watson
Norman Ford is 79, fit as a whistle and fed up with crybaby Americans.
Do nothing but sit around and eat pizza and watch TV all day, and the author of 18 Natural Ways to Look and Feel Half Your Age will spare you no sympathy.

| Follow Norman Ford's personal-fitness plan, which covers a three-day cycle. |
| Day 1: Walk briskly up hills and down for an hour, then do 45 minutes of hatha yoga (stretching). |
| Day 2: Swim 30 minutes in winter, 60 in summer, followed by 50 minutes of strength-building exercises, including building up back and abdominal muscles. |
| Day 3: Ride a bicycle 40 miles over a hilly course. | |

If you say, "I can't find time for fitness," he says, "Tough. Turn off the TV and get off your butt." If you say, "I can't lose weight," he says, "Get off the processed foods, the animal fats, the white sugar and white flour."
Hang with me here. This is not another hectoring diatribe against fat people. If you're happy with the way you look, great. But if you're not, Ford has a message for you, and I couldn't agree more: You can change your life, lose weight, become more active and experience life.
Motivation is key. And Ford offers two good ones:
• Better sex.
• Fear — fear of early death, another bypass surgery, a life in the doctor's office and, well, lousy or nonexistent sex.
So really, it's all about ... sex. And the problem with that is?
Thought so.
The prescription is simple: Daily exercise and a diet high in fruits and veggies, low in animal fats and processed foods.
